Mollie stars as Nina Lucas in ITV’s perennial primetime people-pleasing soap opera Coronation Street.
Mollie’s performance has been an incredibly well-recieved addition to the show, winning Best Serial Drama Performance at the 2021 National Television Awards, Best Partnership alongside Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Best Storyline at the 2021 InsideSoap Awards; and Best Newcomer at the 2020 InsideSoap Awards!
Nina is a seventeen-year-old girl who is nothing like her peers. Nina’s goth appearance and shy personality is often mistaken for rudeness but underneath this is a vulnerable girl who has spent a childhood caring for her gravely ill father Richard, the brother of Corrie veteran Roy Cropper. A loner, Nina has a strong bond with her dad and is extremely protective of him.
As a young carer, Nina missed a lot of school and can be socially awkward with kids her own age, though she claims she is not bothered by what anyone thinks of her.
Underneath her abrasive exterior and gothic dress sense, there is a bright young woman who can be sparky and fun.
Nina has a distinctive goth look and personality, which makes her stand out from the other teens on the fabled street.
Nina was in the centre of a major storyline involving the hate-motivated assault on her and her boyfriend Set, who later died of his injuries, based off the real-life murder of Sophie Lancaster in 2007. The production is worked in tandem with the Sophie Lancaster Foundation to bring a light to senseless hate-based violence. The storyline won Best Storyline at the InsideSoap Awards 2021.
