Marco Gambino – Ida Rubinstein: The Final Act

Marco co-starred as d’Annunzio in Ida Rubinstein: The Final Act, which ran at London’s Playground Theatre from the 23rd of September until the 16th of October.

Directed and by Christian Holder and with production design by the BAFTA and Emmy award-winning David Roger, it recounted the story of one of dance history’s great lost icons, Ida Rubinstein.

Throughout her illustrious career Rubinstein danced across the world, including once giving a performance of Salomé so scandalous that her family had her committed to an insane asylum, and worked alongside such titanic names as Stravinsky, Debussy and Nijinsky.

Off the stage she was notable for her multiple love affairs with both men and women, the mysterious assassination of her long-time lover Lord Moyne, and her devotion to helping the wounded of the World Wars.

Ida Rubinstein: The Final Act used dance, music, text and film to provoke this bewitching golden age complete with former American Ballet Theatre ballerina Naomi Sorkin as Ms Rubinstein herself.
