Jack Brady – Sanditon
Jack Brady guest-stars in the first season of Sanditon, available on the ITV HUB.
An adaptation of the unfinished Jane Austen novel of the same name, it follows the young ingénue Charlotte Heywood as she ends up in the care of the Parker family following a coach incident.
Falling for the entrepreneurial son Tom, they return the resort town of Sanditon (based on Worthing in West Sussex) which he is turning into a holiday destination.
The bright and ambitious Charlotte is taken by her new surroundings but is shocked by the scheming of the residents and the scandalous secrets they keep hidden away, coming into sharp conflict with Tom’s younger brother Sidney.
Jane Austen had only written eleven chapters or roughly 1/5th of the novel she referred to simply as The Brothers by the time of her death, most likely caused by Hodgkin’s lymphoma or a hormonal deficit disorder called Addison’s disease, in July 1817 at the age of 41.
It would take until 1925 for Sanditon to eventually see the light of day and even then it was simply titled Fragment of a Novel.
