Helen Keeley – Absurd Person Singular

Helen co-starred in London Classic Theatre’s nationwide tour of Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular, which roamed around the UK from the 16th of June to the 16th of October, 2021.

Debuting in the West End in June 1973 before being adapted into a popular BBC drama in 1985, it documents the changing fortunes of three married couples across three acts with each taking place at a Christmas celebration at one of the couple’s homes on successive Christmas Eves.

Sidney Hopcroft, a small-time tradesman, persuades his wife Jane to throw a Christmas party hoping to find favour with a bank manager and a local architect.

As celebrations get under way, class differences and naked ambition combine as, one by one, the characters seek refuge in Jane’s kitchen.

Over the next two years the Jacksons and Brewster-Wrights take turns to host festivities.

But Sidney’s star is on the rise and roles are increasingly reversed as the cracks in the other couples’ marriages begin to show.
