Adam Lilley, Lizzie Muncey & Paul Hilliar – The Mousetrap

Adam, Lizzie and Paul all co-starred in Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap at St Martin’s Theatre from its post-COVID reopening in May until late November 2021

The longest-running play in the history of the West End, this iconic murder-mystery has been performed over 26,000 times since its London debut in November 1952.

Agatha Christie famously thought that the show didn’t have any legs. She notes in her autobiography that she, in a conversation with the show’s original producer Peter Saunders, said: “It won’t run that long. Eight months perhaps. Yes, I think eight months.”

It would break the longest run for a straight play in the West End by September 1957 with Noël Coward sending Christie a telegram begrudgingly saying “Much as it pains me I really must congratulate you…”

The Mousetrap also makes history for having an original cast member survive every single cast change since its opening night. The same Radio News bulletin from Deryck Guyler which was recorded back in 1952 has played at the opening of the performance since the show opened.

Helen co-starred in London Classic Theatre’s nationwide tour of Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular, which roamed around the UK from the 16th of June to the 16th of October, 2021.

Debuting in the West End in June 1973 before being adapted into a popular BBC drama in 1985, it documents the changing fortunes of three married couples across three acts with each taking place at a Christmas celebration at one of the couple’s homes on successive Christmas Eves.

Sidney Hopcroft, a small-time tradesman, persuades his wife Jane to throw a Christmas party hoping to find favour with a bank manager and a local architect.

As celebrations get under way, class differences and naked ambition combine as, one by one, the characters seek refuge in Jane’s kitchen.

Over the next two years the Jacksons and Brewster-Wrights take turns to host festivities.

But Sidney’s star is on the rise and roles are increasingly reversed as the cracks in the other couples’ marriages begin to show.
