Cary Crankson – Off West End Awards 2020

We are immensely proud to say that Cary has won the award for Best Male Performance in a Play at the OffWestEnd.Com Awards, otherwise known as The Offies, for his sterling performance as Jamie in Simon Stephens’ Country Music at Omnibus Theatre, Clapham.

The Offies were first held in 2010 and was established to recognise and celebrate excellence, innovation and ingenuity in independent off-West End theatres throughout London.

Over 80 theatres take part with more than 400 productions being considered throughout any given year with the eventual winners being selected by a panel of top theatre critics.

Written before Stephens found mainstream success with his Olivier-winning adaptation of Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Country Music is based of Stephens’ experiences leading theatre workshops in prisons.

It tells the story of Jamie Carris, a troubled man from a tough background at 3 different points of his life over 2 decades: in his teens hanging out with his girlfriend in a stolen car, in his 20s when his half-brother visits him in prison, and in his 30s attempting to reenter society after leaving prison & desperately trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter.
