Brian Caspe & Sinéad Phelps – Lore

Both Brian and Sinéad will be guest-starring in separate episodes of the second season of the Amazon Prime horror anthology Lore, debuting on the 19th of October.

Originally a podcast helmed by Aaron Mahnke (who now acts as the narrator for the series), it tells spine-chilling tales of supernatural goings-on based on real-life accounts using a mixture of documentary footage and cinematic scenes to tell these stories.

Season 2 will be more of the same: the recounting of real-life episodes of human history that beggars belief and proves that truth is often stranger than fiction.

Brian will be playing aeronautical engineer and painter Frank Malina in the 5th episode “Jack Parsons”. Born Marvel Whiteside Parsons, Jack Parsons is considered one of the fore-fathers of our forays into space, being one of the principal founders of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory which would be one of the progenitors of NASA. He was also a devout member of the religious movement Thelema, founded by infamous English occultist Aleister Crowley, and would go on to be the leader of the Californian branch of the Thelemite brotherhood Ordo Templi Orientis.

Frank Malina was a close friend of Parsons, both graduating from Caltech together where they both would make major breakthroughs in rocketry, garnering the nickname “The Suicide Squad” because of their dangerous experiments. Malina will be the chief antagonist for the episode, fighting tooth-and-nail against Parson’s descent into the dark esoteric world of the occult.

Sinéad stars in the 4th episodes of the series entitled “Burke and Hare”. The episode focuses on the infamous Penny Dreadful tale of William Burke and William Hare, two down-and-out Irishmen working the dockyard of Edinburgh in 1828  who are lured into the lucrative underground trade of grave-digging. The two friends would get a pretty penny for their grizzly harvests by selling them to a doctor named Robert Knox for dissection. However, the greed and ambition of the two Irishmen quickly makes them descend into more insidious ways of procuring fresh cadavers and Burke and Hare would commit 16 murders over 10 months throughout Edinburgh.

Sinéad plays their last victim named Margaret Docherty, a young 28-year old Scotswoman who pretends to be Burke’s cousin. After their other lodgers found Margaret’s body, Burke and Hare were arrested and brought before a judge but by revealing information to the details of the 16 deaths to the count in a process known as turning King’s evidence, Hare was given immunity. Burke was convicted of murder and hanged and, rather ironically, his body was dissected and his skeleton is still on display at the Anatomical Museum of the Edinburgh Medical School.
