Richard John – The Last Ship

Richard is the Musical Director of The Last Ship, currently at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton after previously being at Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle.

With music and lyrics written by legendary musician Sting, the story by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winners John Logan and Brian Yorkey and following a successful Tony-nominated run on Broadway in 2014, this semi-autobiographical story of Tyneside in the 1980s made its British debut at the Northern Stage in Newcastle.

The Last Ship tell the story of Gideon Fletcher, who returns to the seafaring town of Wallsend after 15 years. Inspired by Sting’s own hometown, it tells of Gideon’s efforts to come to terms with his past while grappling with the man he has become.
