Julie Barclay – Loot

Julie features as Mrs Mary McLeavy in Joe Orton’s Loot, produced by Black RAT productions in association with the Blackwood Miner’s Institute, directed by Richard Turnley and will be touring throughout Wales in Autumn.

Dennis works for an undertaker. Hal’s old Mum has just died. Ludicrous slapstick meets dubious morals as the two young friends stash the proceeds of a bank robbery in Mum’s occupied coffin, all whilst trying to avoid a crazed policeman, a gold-digging nurse and a grieving widower.

With the money safely hidden, there’s no place for Mum whose body keeps re-appearing at the most inopportune times and our reprehensible theives  stumble their way through the story with hilarious consequences.

Sona Vyas – Stath Lets Flats

Sona appears in the workplace comedy Stath Lets Flats as Helen, a prim and proper middle-class prospective tenant after a large property.

Also running the business is Stath’s equally inept sister Sophie. Jason Squibb – Poldark

Jason reprised his role of Reverend Odgers in the fourth series of BBC’s smash-hit period drama Poldark.

Poldark is based on the novels by Winston Graham and was previously made into a series by the BBC in 1975 starring Robin Ellis as the British Army officer returning to his Cornish home from fighting in the Thirteen Colonies to find his home-life turned upside down.

The modern version stars the roguish Aiden Turner and has been one of the highest rated shows on British TV ever since its debut in 2015. Even the Prince of Wales himself is a fan! Jason’s character (played by a young Christopher Biggins in the 1975 original) has been with us since the first season.

Matthew Lloyd Davies – Audie Awards 2018

We are absolutely delighted to say that Matt has won a highly prestigious Audie Award for Humour for his narration of Carpet Diem: Or…How to Save the World by Accident.

Regarded as the Oscars of the audiobook industry, the Audies are presented annually in the US by the Audio Publishers Association and celebrate excellence in Audiobook narration and production. Out of over 50,000 titles produced in the States they are whittled down into 29 categories. Matthew Lloyd Davies, having been nominated in the Non-Fiction category last year; this year he admirably surpassed that achievement.

Written by Justin Lee Anderson, it tells the story of Simon Debovar, 15 years after losing most of his family to a devastating pudding-related tragedy, settled into a self-imposed exile from the stinking selfish morass of humanity. Content in his daily highlights of hazelnut coffee, long baths and the occasional jar of olives, his life is completely upended by the discovery that his ornate living room carpet is a deciding factor in a bet between God and the Devil. And when mysteriously well-timed carpet thieves deprive him of his divine floor-covering he has to leave his hermitage behind for a world of angels, demons, witches and immortals.

Jamie Newall & Reginald Edwards – The Tempest

tTwo of our clients will starred in the Iris Theatre’s production of The Tempest, Shakespeare’s timeless tale of power, magic, deceit and love.

Jamie Newall played Prospero, a fiercely intelligent and occasionally ruthless man who lords it over the various creatures who inhabit a mysterious island which he has been forced to call his home. A former Duke who has uncovered the powerful (and often dark) arts of magic, Prospero is one of Shakespeare’s most contradictory and multifarious protagonists, and we can’t wait to see Jamie bring him to life.

Reginald Edwards took double duty, starring as both Stephano and Sebastian, two antagonists and would-be usurpers who attempt to sow discord throughout the story. Stephano, a drunken and garrulous butler, schemes to claim Prospero’s island for his own. Sebastian, meanwhile, plots to overthrow his brother (and king) Alonso. Good luck to Reginald for this dastardly duty of bringing these two mischief-makers to life.

Directed by Daniel Winder, the production took inspiration from 17th century royal masques, and was beautiful and moving.

The Tempest ran from Wednesday 20th June to Saturday 28th July at the Iris Theatre.

David Pendlebury – Into the Woods

David starred as  The Steward in Off-West End Award-winners All Star Productions’ new adaptation of Sondheim’s Into the Woods at the Cockpit Theatre.

All Star Productions, in partnership with Trilby Productions, took Sondheim’s subversive classic and gave it a modern 21st Century twist featuring 17 larger than life characters drawn directly from modern-day Britain.

This fantastic musical invites the audience to a journey into the middle of the woods where well-known fairy tales interweave to create a magical world. As with all fairy tales from the Grimm Brothers, Into the Woods imparts a valuable lesson that our actions can affect others and that we must take responsibility for their consequences.

We are also delighted to announce that Into the Woods was nominated for 5 OffWestEnd awards including Best Female Performance in a Musical, Best Supporting Male in a Musical and best Musical Director. Congrats to everyone involved!
